How it works
For inductance L in henries and current I in amperes, the tool computes the magnetic-field energy as E = ½L·I² joules.
Assumptions & limits
- Models an ideal, linear inductor with constant inductance; it does not account for winding resistance, core loss or magnetic saturation.
- Inductance and current must both be positive finite numbers.
§
FAQ
- What happens to stored energy if current doubles?
- With inductance unchanged, doubling current makes the energy four times as large because energy is proportional to I².
